What is a deficiency disease?

Deficiency can be defined as a disease caused by a deficiency of dietary elements such as essential nutrients and vitamins and minerals in the human body. A balanced diet is very important to an individual's overall health. An unbalanced diet can lead to overdose or undergoes of certain nutrients. Deficiency can result from a deficiency of certain nutrients. Deficiency is a disease caused by a deficiency of essential nutrients, especially vitamins and minerals. A balanced diet focuses on providing all the nutrients your body needs. This includes major nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates, and fats, as well as micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals. Therefore, a balanced diet can prevent deficiency.

 Examples of deficiency:

Vitamin B1 deficiency causes beriberi, and iron deficiency in the body can lead to anemia.

Types of deficiency:

Vitamins and minerals are the nutrients our body needs to develop and function properly. A, C, D, E, K, and  B vitamins thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), nicotinic acid (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), pyridoxal (B6), cobalamin (B12), biotin, folic acid / Folic acid is an all known vitamin. Calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, chloride, magnesium, iron, zinc, iodine, sulfur, cobalt, copper, fluoride, manganese, and selenium are all essential minerals for good health. Deficiency can be divided into two types.

  •  Vitamin deficiency
  •  Mineral deficiency

Vitamin deficiency

It is a long-term deficiency of important amines in our body. If the intake of vitamins is too low, it is called a primary deficiency, and if the reason for the deficiency is the malabsorption of vitamins associated with the disease, it is called a secondary deficiency. Vitamin deficiency can lead to illnesses such as beriberi and pellagra. Vitamin deficiency remains a problem all over the world. They are usually clinically overlooked unless they are severe, but even the slightest deficiency can have serious consequences. Vitamin deficiency affects people of all ages and often accompanies mineral deficiency (zinc, iron, iodine). Pregnant and lactating women and toddlers are most susceptible to vitamin deficiency because of the relatively high need for these compounds and their sensitivity to their deficiency. These include infections, death, anemia, death during pregnancy or childbirth, and impaired mental and physical development. Vitamin deficiency has consequences due to the biochemical functions they perform.

Examples of vitamin deficiency:

 Deficiency of water-soluble vitamins:

Water-soluble vitamins include ascorbic acid (vitamin C), thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6 (pyridoxine, pyridoxamine, pyridoxamine), foreskin, vitamin B12, biotin, and pantothenic acid.

 Deficiency of fat-soluble vitamins:

Vitamins A, D, E, and K are known as fat-soluble vitamins because they are soluble in organic solvents and are absorbed and transported like fat.

 Mineral deficiency

Minerals are nutrients that the human body needs to function properly. Mineral deficiency occurs when the body does not get or absorb the required amount of minerals. It can occur slowly over time for a variety of reasons. This may be due to an increased need for minerals in the body, a lack of minerals in the diet, and so on. Mineral deficiency can lead to a variety of health problems. For example, iron deficiency can lead to anemia. The human body needs different amounts of each mineral to maintain good health. Specific requirements are listed in the Daily Allocation (RDA).
RDA is an average amount that meets the nutritional needs of 97% of healthy individuals. They are found in foods, mineral supplements, and foods fortified with extra minerals.
Defects occur over time and can be caused by a variety of situations. Increasing mineral needs, lack of minerals in the diet, or difficulty in absorbing minerals from the diet are some of the most common explanations.
Mineral deficiency can, among other things, lead to bone brittleness, malaise, and weakened immunity.
